Well pump repair & installation for deep and shallow wells

No water on a well is an emergency. Essential Plumbing’s Indiana DNR licensed pump installers repair and replace submersible and jet pumps, pressure tanks, switches and constant pressure systems for homes across Hendricks County and the surrounding countryside — 24 hours a day.

Signs your well system needs service

  • No water at any faucet, or water that stops and starts.
  • Low or swinging pressure — strong one minute, weak the next.
  • The pump short-cycles: you hear it click on and off every few seconds while water runs.
  • The pump runs and runs without shutting off, or the breaker for the pump keeps tripping.
  • Air spitting from faucets, or sudden sand, sediment or cloudy water.
  • A pressure tank that is waterlogged, rusting, or leaking at the fittings.
  • An error light or fault code on a constant pressure controller.

What we do

  • Troubleshooting the whole system — pump, pressure switch, control box, wiring, pressure tank and check valves — so we fix the cause, not just the symptom.
  • Deep well submersible pumps: pulling, testing and replacing pumps set down in the well casing.
  • Shallow well jet pumps: repair and replacement of above-ground pumps, including prime and foot valve problems.
  • Pressure tanks: replacement, correct air pre-charge, tank tees, gauges, relief valves and drain valves.
  • Pressure switches and controls: replacement and adjustment so the pump starts and stops where it should.
  • Constant pressure systems: installation, repair and fault-code diagnosis for variable-speed pump controllers.
  • Water quality after the fix: wells in our area often carry iron, hardness or a sulfur smell — we can pair pump work with filtration and treatment or a water softener.

Constant pressure systems

A traditional well system turns the pump fully on at a low pressure setting and fully off at a high one, so you feel the pressure rise and fall in the shower. A constant pressure system uses a variable-speed controller that speeds the pump up or slows it down to hold a steady pressure, even with several fixtures running. They typically use a smaller pressure tank and start the motor more gently. We install them, service them, and track down fault codes when one stops working.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between a deep well pump and a shallow well pump?

Shallow wells usually use an above-ground jet pump that pulls water up from a short distance. Deep wells use a submersible pump that sits down in the well casing and pushes water up to the house. We’ll identify which you have and what it needs when we arrive.

Why does my well pump keep clicking on and off?

Rapid on-off cycling (short-cycling) most often points to a waterlogged pressure tank or a tank with the wrong air charge, but a failing pressure switch, a leak, or a bad check valve can cause it too. Short-cycling wears out pumps quickly, so it’s worth having it checked.

Should I switch to a constant pressure system?

If you’re tired of pressure that rises and falls, a constant pressure system can deliver steadier water pressure throughout the house. It isn’t the right fit for every well, so we’ll look at your pump, well and household use and explain the options before anything is installed.
