Drain cleaning & sewer camera inspection

A slow sink is an annoyance; a backed-up drain is an emergency. Essential Plumbing clears clogs in kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks, tubs and showers, toilets, laundry drains and floor drains, and uses sewer and drain camera inspections to see what’s really going on inside the line. Available 24/7.

Signs you need drain cleaning

  • Water drains slowly or stands in the sink, tub or shower.
  • Gurgling sounds from drains or the toilet when another fixture drains.
  • Bad odors coming up from a drain.
  • Water backs up into a tub or floor drain when the washer drains or a toilet is flushed.
  • More than one drain is slow at the same time — often a sign of a main-line clog.
  • Store-bought drain cleaner worked for a week, then the clog came back.

What we do

  • Kitchen sink clogs from grease, food waste and disposal build-up.
  • Bathroom sink, tub and shower drains slowed by hair and soap scum.
  • Toilet clogs and toilets that keep backing up.
  • Laundry and floor drains, including basement floor drains.
  • Main line backups — clearing the line and helping you understand what caused it.
  • Sewer and drain camera inspections — see the section below.
  • Repairing or replacing traps and drain fittings that are cracked, leaking or poorly pitched.

Sewer & drain camera inspection

When a drain keeps clogging, clearing it again only treats the symptom. We run a waterproof inspection camera down the drain or sewer line so we can see the inside of the pipe and show you what we find. A camera inspection helps with:

  • Recurring clogs — finding the cause, whether it’s built-up grease, a buried obstruction or damaged pipe.
  • Root intrusion — tree roots that have worked into joints or cracks in the sewer line.
  • Bellied or broken lines — sagging sections that hold water and waste, and cracked, offset or collapsed pipe.
  • Buying a home — checking the sewer line before you close, so you know its condition before it becomes your problem.

After the inspection we explain what we saw and talk through the options, so any repair is based on the actual condition of the line instead of guesswork.

City sewer or septic?

Many homes in our towns are on city sewer, while plenty of rural properties around Hendricks County use a septic system. If your home is on septic and several drains back up at once, the cause may be the line to the tank — or the tank itself. We’ll help figure out which, so you call the right person the first time.

Skip the chemical drain cleaners

Harsh liquid drain cleaners can be hard on older pipes and fittings, and they’re a hazard for anyone who has to open the drain afterward. If a plunger doesn’t fix it, give us a call instead. For more tips, see our guide on when to call a plumber.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why are several of my drains slow at the same time?

When multiple fixtures are slow or gurgling together, the clog is usually further down in the shared drain or main line rather than in one fixture. That’s worth a call before it turns into a backup — and if it keeps happening, a camera inspection can show why.

Are chemical drain cleaners safe for my pipes?

We don’t recommend them. They often don’t clear the whole clog, they can be hard on older pipes and fittings, and they create a hazard for whoever opens the drain next.

How can I prevent kitchen sink clogs?

Keep grease, oil and fats out of the sink, scrape plates into the trash, and run plenty of water when using a garbage disposal. Coffee grounds, eggshells and fibrous scraps are common culprits.

What is a sewer camera inspection, and when do I need one?

We send a waterproof camera through your drain or sewer line to see the inside of the pipe. It’s the best way to find the cause of clogs that keep coming back, spot tree roots, sagging (bellied) sections or broken pipe, and check a sewer line before you buy a home.

My home is on a septic system. Can you still help?

Yes. We clear drain lines in homes on septic and can help you tell whether a backup is a line problem or a sign the septic tank needs attention.

Do you clear drains after hours?

Yes. Essential Plumbing is available 24/7 for drain backups. Call 317-899-9009.
